Aldermore, the specialist challenger banking group, has appointed Ralph Coates as CFO*, effective from 1 May. Claire Cordell will be stepping down as CFO and from the Board on 30 April to pursue an opportunity to relocate overseas.

Ralph was most recently CFO of TSB for five years and was pivotal in driving its transformation and growth strategy. Prior to joining TSB, he was Finance Director at the Bank of England, from 2013 to 2016, after nine years at Barclays, latterly as the Finance Director of Barclays’ UK Retail & Business Bank. Ralph qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC in South Africa before joining the firm in London in the Transaction Services division.

Ralph will join the bank’s Executive Committee, and Board, and will report to CEO Steven Cooper.

As planned, Claire will lead the half year results with Steven Cooper in March.

Steven Cooper, CEO of Aldermore Group, said:

“I’m delighted to have been able to appoint Ralph as our new CFO. Throughout his career he’s been successful in driving growth and transformation and I know he’s going to be a real asset to Aldermore.  He is a talented business leader and we will benefit hugely from his experience and expertise in taking us into the future; both backing our customers as the economy recovers from the pandemic and supporting them to grasp the opportunities that lie ahead.

“I would like to thank Claire for her hard work and dedication supporting Aldermore’s journey over the last eight years; helping grow the business into what it is today. She leaves with our best wishes for a job well done.”

Claire Cordell, CFO of Aldermore Group said:

"The eight years I’ve spent at Aldermore have been amongst the most rewarding of my career and I’m immensely proud of how this business has grown rapidly while remaining true to its founding values. Aldermore is a special business, which I’m sure will continue to shake up the banking market by serving those customers the high street lenders have traditionally not engaged with. I wish Steven, all my teammates and colleagues the very best for the future.”

Ralph Coates said:

“I’m very excited to be joining Aldermore at such an interesting phase of its growth journey. I look forward to working with Steven and my new colleagues to build on the strong foundations already laid and unlock the great potential that exists in the bank.”
