Authorised Push Payment (APP) Fraud

Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud occurs when a fraudster tricks you into making a payment by pretending to be a genuine person or business.

Unlike other types of fraud where someone might hack into your account, with APP scams, you’re the one who authorises the payment, but you’ve been deceived into doing so.

These scams can be particularly convincing because fraudsters often impersonate trusted organisations, such as your bank, a service provider, or even a friend.

It can be hard to spot the scam until it’s too late, as everything appears to be legitimate at the time of the payment.

From 7 October, there are some new regulations around APP Fraud to improve consumer protection.  Click the button to learn more.
